Getting Started
Most reading pens work the same basic way: hold the pen at a slight angle, place the tip at the start of a word or line, and slide it steadily across the text.
A Simple First Try
Start with a single, clearly printed word rather than a full sentence. Slide the pen tip across it at a slow, even pace — not too fast, not stopping partway. Listen for the result, then try a short phrase once the motion feels comfortable.
If It Doesn't Recognize the Word
A missed scan is usually about speed, angle, or print quality rather than the word itself. Try again a little slower, keep the tip flat against the page, and make sure the text is clearly printed rather than handwritten or low-contrast.
Building the Habit
Most children get comfortable with the motion within a few tries. It helps to practice on familiar, easy text first, so the child is learning the scanning motion rather than struggling with both the device and difficult vocabulary at the same time.
